One Family House Addition - Livingston NJ

New One Family House With just 1,250 square feet of usable space and a floor plan that was out of date, the original cottage on this property was impractical for modern homeowners. After undergoing a complete transformation from foundation up, this impressive residence now boasts nearly 3,000 square feet, 4 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms. And it is just as impressive from the curbside as it is on the inside.

In the new design, we were able to maintain the mature foliage on the lot and accentuate it with landscaping around the portico. The front door and the garage remain in the same position, though they are the only recognizable features from the previous exterior. We expanded the ground floor both to the side and back and added two additional stories of living space. On the facade, the outdated color scheme was replaced with modern earthtones, and we paired siding with stone around the door and base or added visual appeal.

Stepping in the front door, the open design of the main level allows easy access to the entire floor from the vestibule. To the left, find the formal dining room. To the right is a French-doored office and a full bathroom. Following the hallways back instead gives way to an entertainer’s dream. The great room at the back offers an open canvas for get-togethers, with its U-shaped kitchen, spacious center island and attached family room. There is a butler’s pantry and mudroom just off the kitchen, as well. Indoor/outdoor living is made possible by the centralized patio doors in this room, which lead out to the patio and fenced-in backyard.

The wide staircase is also located in the vestibule, and its positioning was carefully calculated to break up the first floor’s public and private areas without interfering with the natural flow of traffic. All of the residence’s four bedrooms are located on the second floor. The three main bedrooms are set right off the stairs, are equipped with large closets and share access to a full bathroom, while the master bedroom is tucked away in the back corner of this level for maximum peace and privacy. Here, his-and-hers walk-in closets and a master bathroom that features dual sinks and a separate shower and bath make for luxurious living. For convenience, the laundry facilities are also located on this floor.

Moving up one more level, opportunity awaits. A large bonus room spans the entirety of the third floor and features wide-open space for recreation and plenty of storage closets. The recessed lighting, large windows and attention to detail that highlight the first two floors continue here, which gives this residence a consistent look from top to bottom.
