Plainfield Residence

New One Family House This property is situated on a spacious lot in a suburban area, which allowed us to design a large home with approximately 3,675 square feet between the first and second floors. The residence is designed in a New American Style that highlights large living spaces and fantastic flow. Asymmetrical accents meld with traditional features to create a beautiful home inside and out at the Plainfield Residence. To speed up the construction process and to ensure a solid base for the home, we used a modern precast concrete foundation system.

The lot on which this property is set features many mature trees, which provide shade and privacy for the owners without isolating the house from the neighbors. There is a smooth driveway in front of the house, which leads to the home's two-car attached garage. Besides the garage, other functional spaces within the Plainfield Residence that are not calculated in the total square footage include the basement - 1,648 square feet - and the walk-up attic - 640 square feet. We designed these areas to provide opportunities for customization and expansion, such as for a playroom, a media room or a bonus room, should the owners desire.

From the front door, the flow of the house is apparent. Engineered joists throughout the main floor allow or open spaces in widths of up to 25 feet. Double-high ceilings in the entry only add to the open, airy feel of the space. The formal living room and the dining room are immediately visible to the left. Because we planned the first floor with partial walls, the spaces are designated without adding any visual density. Tucked away to the side is a guest bedroom and a bathroom, and in the back of the first-floor plan is a fantastic great room, dining and kitchen area.

The whole back of the first floor is 100 percent open and is setup with an entertaining-friendly design. An island separates the kitchen from the great room, and there is an informal dining area here, as well. With a total length of 39 1/2 feet, this portion of the house offers clear views and an impressive amount of square footage. Best of all, with the use of large windows and two sets of French doors, we were able to fill this area with natural light. Both sets of French doors lead out to a 27-foot by 10-foot deck and the tree-filled backyard.

Because the upstairs foyer area is open to the downstairs entry and features large windows, this area is fully illuminated by incoming sunlight. There is a small sitting area in the main foyer, and from here, the second-floor laundry is easily accessible. All three of the home's upstairs bedrooms are located on the left side of the house for privacy from the master. Each bedroom is large enough to accommodate a king-size bed and has a long closet with ample storage space. Giving the owner's a secluded retreat, the master suite is situated right above the garage. This getaway also benefits from engineered joists and boasts a 20-foot by 23-foot floor plan. His and hers closets and a luxurious master bath with a separate tub and shower are highlights of the suite.

In all, there are five bedrooms and three bathrooms in the Plainfield Residence; however, rough-in plumbing is in place to allow for the future construction of two additional bathrooms, should the owners desire. With a solid base and a floor plan that provides functionality, quality design and room for future customization, the Plainfield Residence speaks for itself.
